Public Attitudes on National Security

Successful policies are forged in a public context, shaped by events, language, and results. The American Security Project will conduct an on-going examination of public attitudes to better understand the values and beliefs the public brings to any discussion of national security and America’s role in the world. The objective of this effort is not simply to understand what the public thinks about national security, but how it thinks about security issues and the context in which judgments and perceptions are formed.

Project Report

  • What Americans Believe About National Security and Foreign Policy

Successful policies are forged in a public context. This comprehensive American Security Project survey reveals a sophisticated American public that understands the complexities of the myriad national security challenges and threats of the 21st century and the intracacies of national security policy.

This publication is the final report of that survey of Americans' national security attitudes. The 2000-voter survey, "America and The World: Evolving Attitudes on National Security and Foreign Policy," was conducted by Marttila Communications Group from April 30 to May 8, 2007.
